Engine Run-Up & Taxi Training

Course Overview
This practical course prepares maintenance technicians to safely prepare the aircraft, flight deck, and systems for engine operation and taxi. Participants will operate the engines in both normal and non-normal conditions, experience realistic emergency scenarios, and apply structured CRM and checklist procedures using a read-and-respond format.

Using a full flight simulator, technicians will practice engine run-ups, pushback, taxi to and from the run-up area, and taxi to remote parking positions. The simulator environment provides real hands-on experience, especially for abnormal conditions and emergencies, as well as the execution of required engine tests such as Power Assurance Checks and Vibration Surveys.

Training Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the technician will be able to:

• Demonstrate normal autostart and manual start functions of the engines.
  
  

• Identify and explain in detail the normal function of all aircraft systems required to safely perform engine start and shutdown, including the use of Primary and Secondary Engine Displays.
  
  

• Perform engine starting, engine running, and shutdown procedures with reference to synoptic displays, maintenance pages, snapshots, and fault history.
  
  

• Explain and carry out Engine Run & Taxi procedures considering wind direction, engine limits, approved run-up areas, engine ground test power requirements, and taxi routes using airport paper charts or EFB.
  
  

• Identify and perform engine tests normally required after line maintenance or engine installation.
  
  

• Use aircraft radio communication systems to communicate with ground traffic control and Air Traffic Control using correct procedures and phraseology.
  
  

• Identify airport taxiway and runway signs and markings, and apply Normal Hold Short and ILS Hold Short procedures with proper readback.
  
  

• Recall and apply standard hand and/or voice signals and terminology for clear communication between flight deck and ground personnel during towing, pushback, and taxi operations.
